Come and Have a GoIf you want to try this unique form of English Traditional Dance, Don’t be shy – we’re not! It’s a great form of exercise and a fun way to meet people and keep fit.
We are always looking for new dancers to join our energetic ‘side’. We take a lot of pride in our standard of dance and practice weekly through the winter (October to April). During the summer, we appear at various pubs and venues in and around Exeter and festivals around the country.
Practice sessions are held weekly on Tuesdays from 8.00pm to 10.00pm in the Dorothy Holman Youth Centre during the months of September to April. New members are welcome as dancers, if they are fit and have a good sense of dance rhythm, or as musicians, if competent on the fiddle, accordion, melodeon, brass or reed.
We will invite you to a 4 week ‘taster’ during September with no obligation to keep dancing after then, but we hope you do as we would like to see Wheal Sophia still entertaining audiences in years to come. No experience necessary, although a sense of rhythm really helps! Comfortable clothing and trainers are ideal. Musicians are also welcome to come and try.
